Cricket's three formats and popular competitions

The first step in cricket betting is understanding the formats well. A T20 match finishes in a few hours, so results change quickly — and you get your bet result fast too. Competitions like BPL and IPL are the most familiar to Bangladeshi fans, because they feature players they know.

ODI, or one-day cricket, is a fifty-over game where both score and strategy matter. Bangladesh Tigers matches in ICC tournaments always bring extra excitement. Test cricket is a five-day contest — draws are possible, which makes the markets different.

All three formats are available for betting at baji. T20 betting is generally the most popular, because the pace is fast and live odds change with every over. Test betting, on the other hand, rewards patience and a knowledge of statistics.

Format Duration Key feature
T20 ~3 hours Fast results, live odds
ODI ~8 hours Both runs and wickets markets
Test 5 days Draw possible, session betting

How cricket betting differs from football and other sports

baji sports betting football and cricket

In cricket, a draw is a valid result (in Test only), so the market usually has three options: one team wins, the other team wins, or a draw. T20 and ODI have no draw, so there are only two outcomes — which is different from many football tournament matches.

In football, goal-based markets (total goals, both teams to score) are common. In cricket, markets based on runs, wickets and overs are more widely used. In sports like badminton or kabaddi, set- or point-based markets are available.

Overall, to understand betting across different sports, it helps to know the rules and scoring system of each sport. At baji, you can bet on football and many other sports alongside cricket.

Popular cricket betting markets

Match markets

Match winner

Betting on which team will win the match is the most straightforward market. In T20 there are two outcomes — Team A wins or Team B wins. For example: if Team A is the favourite, their odds will be lower.

Toss market

Toss winner

Betting on which team will win the toss before the match starts. This market is completely separate and has no connection to the match result. Odds for both teams are usually about equal.

Batting market

Top batsman

Betting on which batsman will score the most runs in the match. There are multiple options here — so knowing the team's lineup helps when making a pick.

Runs market

Total runs over/under

Whether the total runs scored in an innings or the whole match will be more (over) or less (under) than a set number — this market involves betting on a specific runs target.

Wickets market

Total wickets

Betting on how many wickets will fall in the entire match or a specific innings. Pitch conditions and bowling strength influence this market. It is especially interesting in live betting.

Multi bet

Multi bet

Combining the results of multiple matches into a single bet. If all selections are correct, the total return is much higher, but if even one is wrong, the entire bet is lost. A detailed example is given below.

How to read odds — three formats

Odds are written in three different ways: decimal, fractional and American. baji generally uses decimal odds, but knowing all three formats is useful on any platform.

Example 1 — the same price in three forms (bet on Team A to win, stake ৳200):
Decimal 2.50 = Fractional 3/2 = American +150
If Team A wins, return is ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 original stake). If Team A loses, ৳200 is gone.
Example 2 — favourite's price (bet on Team B to win):
Decimal 1.50 = Fractional 1/2 = American -200
American minus odds show how much you need to stake to win ৳100. A ৳200 bet returns ৳300 (৳100 profit).

The decimal format is the simplest — just multiply your stake by the odds to get the total return. The fractional format is more common on British cricket sites. The American format is mainly used in the US market.

For a multi bet, odds are multiplied together — for example, decimal odds of 1.60, 1.80 and 1.90 combined give total odds of 1.60 × 1.80 × 1.90 = roughly 5.47. A ৳100 bet returns ৳547 if all three results are correct; if even one is wrong, ৳100 is lost.

Live in-play betting — odds shift when wickets fall

baji live in-play cricket betting

Live betting means placing bets in real time while the match is in progress. Odds are recalculated after every ball, every wicket and every over. When a key wicket falls, the batting team's odds go up; when a team makes a strong start, their odds come down.

In the death overs (the last few overs), when the target is close, markets become even more active. In live over/under markets — how many runs will be scored in the next over — these bets are settled within minutes.

It is worth keeping in mind that live betting calls for quick decisions, but it is better not to place bets in a rush. Always treat betting as a form of entertainment — the risk of losing exists with every bet. Read the responsible gaming guidelines to keep your betting experience positive.

A few practical tips before you start betting

  • Choose your format. T20, ODI and Test have different markets. T20 is easier to start with for beginners, because matches are shorter and results come faster.
  • Start with a single market. Starting with a simple market like match winner or toss will build your experience and reduce confusion.
  • Set a budget. Decide in advance how much you will bet each session. It is wise not to go beyond your budget.
  • Compare odds. The same market can have different odds. The higher the decimal odds, the higher the potential return — but higher odds do not mean the outcome is certain.
  • Be careful with multi bets. Returns are higher with multiple selections, but one wrong pick means the whole bet is lost. It is better not to combine more than 2–3 selections when starting out.
  • Betting is entertainment — not investment. Cricket betting is for enjoyment. Never place extra bets trying to recover losses. Read the FAQ and seek help if needed.

Cricket betting FAQ

T20 is over in a few hours — results come quickly and markets move fast. In ODI, a lot can change over fifty overs, so there are more opportunities in live betting. In Test cricket, a draw is possible, the outcome over five days is far less certain, and there are session-based markets that the other two formats do not have.

Yes. When decimal odds are close to 1, that outcome is considered the favourite. Example: odds of 1.50 on Team B means a ৳200 bet returns ৳300 (৳100 profit) — that is 1/2 in fractional and -200 in American. The higher the odds, the less certain that outcome is considered to be.

Every event in a match — a wicket, a boundary, a wide or a no-ball — changes the probability of the outcome. Bookmakers calculate these probabilities in real time and update the odds accordingly. For example: if three wickets fall in the first two overs, the batting team's chance of winning drops, so their odds go up and the bowling team's odds come down.

Yes, you can combine multiple cricket matches or different markets within the same match into a multi bet. Example: if three selections are at decimal odds of 1.60, 1.80 and 1.90, the combined odds are roughly 5.47 — a ৳100 bet returns ৳547 if all three are correct. But if any one of the three is wrong, the entire ৳100 is lost.

The main difference is in the number of teams and the length of the season. BPL is Bangladesh's own T20 league, with more local players. IPL is India's league, featuring the best players in the world. The structure of markets and odds is similar in both, though IPL tends to offer a slightly wider variety of markets.
